2. Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner in Vietnamese

As you known sáng, trưa and tối are three periods of time in a day. Vietnamese add “eat” before the time to talk about 3 meals of a day:

Ăn + [sáng/ trưa/ tối]
Vietnamese English
Ăn sáng (noun) Breakfast/ (verb) Have breakfast
Ăn trưa (noun) Lunch/ (verb) Have lunch
Ăn tối (noun) Dinner/ (verb) Have dinner

Examples:

⇒ Tôi ăn sáng lúc 08 giờ rưỡi sáng hôm qua.
What time did you have breakfast yesterday?
⇒ I had breakfast at 08:30 yesterday morning.

⇒ Có. Anh ăn tối cùng em.
⇒ Không. Anh không ăn tối cùng em.
Will you have dinner with me tomorrow?
⇒ Yes, I will.
⇒ No, I won’t.

3. When is your birthday in Vietnamese

Similar to question about date in Vietnamese, you just modify the question a little bit. The word-by-word translation of that question is “What date is your birthday?”.

Question:

Vietnamese: Sinh nhật + của + [pronoun] + + ngày + bao nhiêu?

English: When + is + [my/ your/ his/ etc.] + birthday?
2 3 1

Answer:

Vietnamese: [Sinh nhật] + của + [pronoun] + + [date].
1 2 2 3 4
English: [My/ Your/ His/ etc.] + birthday + is + [date].
2 1 3 4

Examples:

Sinh nhật của anh ngày bao nhiêu?

When is your birthday?

4. Ask if someone is busy, and invite someone to hangout in Vietnamese

Do you remember to say How are you in Vietnamese? Do you still remember how to use two or more verb together in a sentence in Vietnamese? If yes, you can apply that to ask if someone’s busy and invite him/her to hangout in Vietnamese.

Structure:

Vietnamese English
[Pronoun] + + [adjective] + không? [Am/ Are/ Is] + [I/ you/ he/ etc.] + [adjective]?
⇒ Có, [pronoun] + [adjective].
⇒ Không, [pronoun] + không + [adjective].
⇒ Yes, [I/ you/ he/ etc.] + [am/ are/ is].
⇒ No, [I/ you/ he/ etc.] + [am/ are/ is].
[Pronoun] + muốn + mời + [pronoun] + [verb]. [I/ you/ he/ etc.] + would like + to + invite + [me/ you/ him/ etc.] + to + [verb].

⇒ Có, chú ấy bận.
⇒ Không, chú ấy không bận.
Is he busy?
⇒ Yes, he is.
⇒ No, he isn’t.
Các anh bận không?

Are you busy?
⇒ Yes, we are.
⇒ No, we aren’t.
Anh muốn mời em đi ăn tối cùng anh. I would like to invite you to have dinner with me.
